You can hike all over Alger County, we've literally got you covered with hundreds of miles of hiking opportunities. Imagine a week full of waterfall hunting, visiting all of our Alger County Waterfalls. In late July and early August you could spend your entire day south of Wetmore in the pine forests picking blueberries listening to the wind and hiking miles of two tracks or open forest.
Grand Island Recreation Area
Grand Island is a 13,000 acre Adventure Paradise. Amazing waterways, huge cliffs, sandy beaches, lakes, trails, lighthouse...and, well, you get the idea. You can hop the ferry to Grand Island using the Ferry Schedule on the Grand Island Website. View the Grand Island Recreation Area Map.
North Country Trail
If you hike, you've heard of The North Country Trail. 4600 miles, from New York to North Dakota. Now that's a hike!! We are partial, however, to the greatest section of the NCT; the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! The diversity of terrain and seasons make this trail hard to forget.
Check out the North Country Trail Web Page for the U.P. and check the
North Country Trail Website for more information. As of 11/9/10 the NCT main website was undergoing some remodeling, but check back soon. If you're on Facebook, post up your photos to the North Country Trail Facebook Page.
